Summary It's just a natural phenomenon, so there's nothing to be afraid of... unless you're beneath a tree.

The room shook as another roar of thunder rolled boomed through the sky. It was the second storm of the week and it didn’t seem to be letting up anytime soon. Much to Kaveh’s dismay. He sighed shakily, placing the book back where he had found it.
Kaveh was always afraid of thunderstorms. It started when he was a kid, the loud boom that’d echo across the sky and shake the floor underneath him. He’d cry until his mother scooped him up to wipe away his tears and eased his fears, explaining to him that he was safe and that nothing could harm him.
When the thunderstorm was particularly bad, she’d tell him fairytales or sing to him until he fell asleep, the thunderstorm far from his mind.
His time in the akademiya was much different, his mother unable to comfort him from the distance between them. So he spent many thunderstorms up late at night, reading books and drawing up blueprints for projects until the storms passed.
“I thought you were going to read before bed?” Alhaitham questioned as Kaveh made his way back to the room, falling face first into his pillow.
A reply was muffled before turning to Alhaitham with a scared expression.
Raising an eyebrow, Alhaitham placed his bookmark between the pages he was reading and closed his book, “What was that?” he asked.
Kaveh turned his head so his mouth wasn’t speaking into the pillow and sighed dramatically, “I said, I can’t focus with the thunderstorm rolling outside.” He turned his face back into the pillow.
A small grunt of amusement left Alhaitham’s mouth as he placed his book on his nightstand. He patted Kaveh’s arm until his partner turned to him, eyebrows furrowed and a glare thrown his direction.
Opening his arms, Alhaitham gave him a small smile. He then gestured with his hands for Kaveh to hug him.
“You feeling okay?” Kaveh asked as he settled into Alhaitham’s chest, arms wrapped around his waist, “I’m feeling fine. But you seemed to need some comfort.”
Kaveh couldn’t argue with that, especially when a particularly loud boom echoed outside and caused the whole house to shake, even making the bed seem to tremble in its wake.
“You’re fine Kaveh. It's just a natural phenomenon, so there's nothing to be afraid of... unless you're beneath a tree.” Alhaitham reached up to run his hands through Kaveh’s hair.
Pouting, Kaveh pinched Alhaitham’s side, causing him to laugh, “The house has trees out front,” he sighed.
Running his hand through Kaveh’s hair again, Alhaitham leaned down and pressed a kiss to his forehead, “And we are inside the house. Where we’re safe and sound. Just don’t go outside and stand under trees.”
Another laugh fell from Alhaitham’s mouth as Kaveh pinched his side before dancing his fingers against his sides.
Kaveh seemed to have settled after that, his body going lax against Alhaitham’s chest as rain pattered against the roof. The thunder seemed to have eased up too, which would account for why his partner was snoring lightly on his chest.
Amused, Alhaitham grabbed his book and read it until he joined Kaveh in sleep.
